Filmmaking, Film Editing

My career in film started in 2004 at IESAV (Institut d’Etudes Scéniques, Audiovisuelles et Cinématographiques) at Université Saint Joseph in Beirut. I received my BA in Performing Arts (Major Film Production and Cinematography). During my studies, I learned the technical aspects and aesthetics of filmmaking. And I was drawn to Film Editing and Screenwriting. Since then, I’ve been working mostly as a film editor, but I also got involved in writing, art direction, production and filming.

Film and Human Rights

2016

As the projects I work on connect film to human rights, I enrolled in the Cinema, Human Rights and Advocacy summer intensive, organized by PICTURE PEOPLE, in collaboration with ICHR (The Irish Centre for Human Rights) and Huston School for Film and Digital Media) at the University of Galway.

I gained knowledge in human rights, censorship, the role of media in conflict zones not only from the point of view of film but also of law and philosophy. I met and learned from lecturers, professionals and students, from all over the world, discussed and worked with them, each one working for human rights in their own unique field.

2021

I participated in Impact Lab بالعربي (in Arabic) hosted by AFLAMUNA (formerly BEIRUT DC), in collaboration with DOC SOCIETY LONDON and in partnership with the British Council. It was held online, due to the pandemic, through which filmmakers, producers, journalists, activists, campaigners and civil society workers met to dissect the methods of impact through film and explore the role of the “Impact Producer”. I discovered the role that civil society can play in the development, funding and distribution of films. I also learned how to use those films to serve the causes they defend.

Film Studies

2018-2019

The MA in Film Studies, Theory and Practice at Huston School at the University of Galway developed my research methodologies, learning about Critical Theory, Film History, Education, Festivals and Digital Media and their role in society historically and in today’s world. For my thesis, I researched and studied the impact films and fiction have on children during war and how the former starts to represent a Home to them.
